The horses of the Vyatka breed appeared in Russia at the beginning of the XVIII century, they are representatives of one of the oldest breeds. Ancestors of Vyatka are forest horses. Until recently, scientists claimed that this breed of horses had died out. However, they were mistaken, these marvelous horses are quite viable, although they are very few. The history of the origin of the Vyatka breed of horses goes far into the past and even today there is no information on the exact date of their appearance.
In various scientific works, many assumptions have been written about the fact that the Vyatka are the descendants of the Norian horses brought by the merchants to the central provinces in 1720 by the order of Peter I, or earlier, under Tsar Aleksei Romanov. Information from other sources suggests that the Vyatka horses appeared back in 1374, at a time when the Novgorod settlers, having moved to the Vyatka lands, brought horses with their ancestors ponies and ordinary mongrel horses.
Characteristics of Vyatka horses
The height of the vyatok reaches 150 cm. The distinctive feature of horses of this breed is the shape of the head – small in size, with a massive forehead, straight profile, wide in the ganache area, but thin in the nose. For Vyatka horses, the neck is of a small size, but it is strong enough, often with a sharp bend, the body is wide and long. The croup is round in shape, and can be slightly lowered. The body is large and massive, with small but firm limbs and hoofs of excellent quality.
The horses of the Vyatka breed are characterized by dense hair. The most common color of horses of the Vyatka breed: light-bay, ashy and light-brown, other colors may be less common. On the hairline, it is also very often possible to meet the remaining traces from ancestors, among which a line of dark color along the ridge, horizontal lines on the limbs, the presence of a dark shade on the coasters. This breed has a friendly and calm disposition. Horses are friendly with people, they are not characterized by a manifestation of unfriendliness.
In addition to all this, horses are endurance, they have excellent health. Enough unpretentious in matters of feeding and nursing, they are omnivorous and can find food for themselves even in the woods. And in the case of a complete lack of water and food, they will endure this period with perseverance. But do not abuse these valuable qualities of the Vyatka breed of horses, caring for them all the same requires constant feeding, the availability of water, and most importantly caresses and attention. That animals are not ill, they must be kept in a warm and dry room.
Vyatskaya breed of horses is used in agricultural work and for the transportation of large-scale loads. In ancient times, the brass wreaths served in the post office, it was with their help that various letters and parcels were delivered from different parts of the country. In addition, the Vyatka are also excellent representatives of the sports horse breed, more than once they became champions of various equestrian competitions.
However, in the XIX century the best representatives of this breed of horses were willingly bought up abroad, which resulted in negative consequences and caused a decrease in their numbers and even a threat of complete extinction! Today, thanks to more than 20 years of rehabilitation work, the Vyatka breed of horses, fortunately, is gaining its popularity again. They are readily bought up by the country’s livestock farms, they are regular participants in various horse shows.
But the actions to popularize the Vyatka breed should be continued, because after the final victory more effort is required to make the Vyatka breed of horses leave the Red Book as a representative of endangered horse breeds.
