Long ago Mongolia was famous for its horse herds, the history of domestication and use of horses in everyday life for Mongolian pastoralists began long ago, at the dawn of the formation of human society and the beginning of the division of the human herd into cattle-breeding and agricultural communities

The horses of the Tuvan breed appeared on the territory of the steppes, even in the Middle Ages, but proved themselves from the best side only during the Civil War and the subsequent revolution. In addition, the Mongolian cattlemen placed more than 50 thousand horses of this breed of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War, for which the herdsman repeatedly expressed his gratitude to none other than Budyonny himself – one of the largest commanders of the Civil and, later, the Great Patriotic War. Armed horse troops were indispensable in conditions of impassable deserts

The Tuva horse has the following features inherent exclusively to this breed: 1. The horse is bred by arata cattle breeders, has a fairly large physique, elongated body shape, beautiful long mane and tail; 2. The legs of the Tuvan horse are short, because of which the height of the horse at the withers does not exceed 127, in rare cases 141 centimeters, even after the pure blood of horses of other breeds was added to the breed as a result of crossing; 3. The head of the horse is large, massive; 4. The horse weighs an average of 300-350 kilograms, and stallions do not weigh much more mares; 5. The main feature of the Tuvan horse is its individuality, there are no two animals that are absolutely identical in suit. The most common horses are bay, gray, red and pinto suits, there are also horses of pure white color, which cattlemen call “mangan”; 6. The horse tolerates all temperatures well, including very low temperatures; 7. Tuvan horse perfectly copes with long transitions under the saddle, and is able to travel long distances not only with cargo, but also with a man, therefore it is used for riding, and for transportation of things and food. The animal itself can do without water and food for long periods of time, which is extremely convenient in conditions of semi-deserts and steppes, since it allows pastoralists to move herds to new pastures, practically without stops and wasting time because it is used, both for riding, and for transportation of things and food. 8. The horse is distinguished by good endurance and efficiency, which makes it possible to use it on the toughest jobs

So, the horse of Tuvan breed can be considered universal and most suitable for breeding in difficult conditions, where no other thoroughbred animal will feel comfortable. Horses need minimal care, with such a minimum amount of food and drink, which makes their breeding very profitable from an economic point of view. That is why the Mongolian cattle breeders are engaged in breeding this breed and to this day, successfully replenishing with the help of horses the lack of equipment, or its inability to get to remote and hard-to-reach areas.
