Pigs belong to a group of animals that are very sensitive to transportation. There are many facts of long-term stress on pigs due to non-compliance with the rules for the transportation of these animals. Some pigs can develop various diseases after the transport due to stress. Therefore, strict compliance with the rules for the transport of pigs is mandatory.
There are two possible ways of transporting pigs: by road and rail. When transporting by car, remember that the transportation time should not exceed 5 hours. Transport in the cold season is necessary only in the tent body, and the temperature inside should not fall below fifteen degrees.
It is very important that inside the body there are no foreign objects and protrusions, which the animal could hit. It is advisable to lay the net on the lower part of the body so that the pigs are dry and clean, and the products of vital activity of the transported pigs through the net hit the bottom of the body.
In some cases, it is recommended to use aminazine or tryptazine, as drugs that increase resistance to stress (a dose of aminazine-0.7 mg per kilogram of weight). Drugs should be introduced 30 minutes before the start of loading. The duration of these drugs does not exceed 6 hours. Pigs should not be fed before transport for 3-4 hours. Before the transportation itself, you can give the pigs a drink in which 80-150 grams of glucose is dissolved per two liters of water. At the end of the “journey” it is necessary to give the pigs abundant food enriched with easily digestible carbohydrates.
As for the vehicle, it must be clean and disinfected. When entering the farm, the driver is obliged to wear shoes that have been treated with a special disinfectant solution. After loading each new lot, the loading ramp should be thoroughly disinfected.
On the railways there are also very strict rules for the transportation of pigs, and they are approved by a special document. In accordance with these rules, only animals that are not susceptible to any disease are allowed to be transported, and this should be recorded in a document of the established type (certificate, certificate).
It is important to know that the veterinary certificate is valid in the event that its release date is indicated not earlier than three days before the day of loading the animals into special wagons. Loading and unloading of pigs is allowed only in non-public areas.
The wagon for loading should be served clean, washed and disinfected. Loading should be carried out exclusively during daylight hours. The rate of loading pigs into one car is clearly defined and should not exceed 50-60 heads in case of pig weight up to 80 kilograms. With the weight of piglets 80-100 kg, 44-50 pigs can be placed in one car. From 28 to 44 individuals up to 150 kilograms fit into one car. And finally, at weight over 150 kilograms in one car it is recommended to place no more than 28 animals. Do not transport pigs or any other animals. Temperature limits for transport in winter are -25 degrees, in summer it is impossible to transport pigs weighing more than 150 kilograms at temperatures above +25 degrees.
Drinking animals during transport should be given at least twice a day. From fodder at a temperature below -15 degrees, the pulp, bard and silage must be completely eliminated. Cleaning from manure should be done only at stations that are approved by the carrier. In case of unforeseen circumstances, it is possible to transfer animals from one car to another only in the presence of veterinarians.
