It is best to keep rabbits in special cages, this will allow to fully control the whole life of rabbits and will give ease for their care. In order to create for the animal a suitable cage that will be suitable for his stay, one can take tubs or even boxes and adapt them for habitation.
It should be noted that it is best to create a more suitable cell for living. You can buy it, or make it yourself.
Cage for rabbit
To begin with, before you decide on the cell and its size, you need to look at the breed of its rabbits and their maximum size. For example, for an average rabbit (meaning not a huge size, like the Gray Giants), the average cell will fit in sides of 60-70 cm, and the height will be enough for 50. For a female, you can increase the long side by 15 cm.
In one side of the cage, you need to install the door, and the side itself, in turn, should be made of wire mesh. At the same time, it is very important that the grid be large enough for the interior to be light enough, but it should also be done so that the young can not get out after birth. Another danger that can lie in wait for rabbits – rats. They also should not be able to climb inside, as they are one of the most dangerous and very first enemies for these animals. They can easily not only gnaw young animals, but also attack and kill even a large individual.
As for the arrangement inside the cage, there is no practical need for males in this, and for females, only a place is needed for the nest, during the osrol. For such a need, no more than a quarter of a cell is enough. There you can install a small plywood screen, with a circular slot through which the female will penetrate inside. The nest should be closed on all sides with plywood. In order to observe what is happening, you can make a special door for yourself.
Saving space and problems associated with this
Often, due to the fact that the cells for rabbits are large enough, there is a constant question of saving space, so cells are often placed in several rows. With such complex constructions, it is necessary to pay special attention to such a problem as urine from the upper cells, which can penetrate into the lower ones. To seal the bottom of the cells, you can use whatever you want, based on the possibilities. There are times when breeders simply purchase expensive cells for themselves in which there is a built-in drain for urine. The bottom can be covered with oil or zinc, so that urine is not absorbed.
Any rabbit, in itself is very clean, so the priority is cleanliness in its premises. In addition to the fact that the animal maintains its own cleanliness in its premises, often almost all urinate only in one place (most often in a corner), and there are even those that also leave secondary digestive waste there. During the care of the animal, it is necessary to take into account this nuance, and in that corner you need to spread more litter, which will absorb the moisture well. It is best to choose peat for such purposes.
The cell must necessarily be in a place that is completely protected from drafts and dampness. Among other things, the room in which the “house” for rabbits will be located should be sufficiently illuminated, with good air distribution throughout the room. In the cool season, the optimal temperature for breeding and livelihoods of animals should not be below seven degrees Celsius.
