The Oryol trotter is one of the symbols of Russia. Who has not heard of the famous Russian troikas, striking their imagination with their beauty and coherence, when the root runs in a crouching, sweeping trot, and two horse-horses gallop galloping on their sides, sketching their necks? Let’s learn together the history of this legendary breed

Orlovsky trotter appeared more than 200 years ago and was named in honor of Count Alexei Orlov, who was engaged in breeding a new breed of horses. His goal was to obtain a hardy and unpretentious, strong and beautiful draft horse capable of trotting long distances

For this, horses of more than 15 different breeds were used. They were also horses of eastern blood: Persian, Arab, Turkmen, and European draft horses from Holland, Denmark and England. These thoroughbred horses were crossed with unpretentious local horses, strictly selecting the resulting foals

For sure, everyone knows the history of the Arabian stallion Smetanka, which became the prototype of the ideal horse, which the Earl of Orlov wanted to receive. Sour cream was carried on foot from Arabia, however, lived in the severe Russian climate, this silver-white stallion is only 2 years old

However, he managed to leave behind a small offspring, among which was the Polkan-1 stallion, in turn, who became the father of the famous Barca-1. In Barclay, Count Orlov saw an ideal, and he wanted to bring out such a horse: energetic, smart, strong, hardy and frisky. The infusion of blood of horses of various breeds also determined the variety of Orel breeds: gray, red, black, bay and rarer suits, such as pyrene,

Gradually, the Orlov breed was cultivated in many horse farms of the country, increasing the number of trotters. The result was a large, strong, hardy lightly harnessed horse, able to run for a long time with an even trot, and also perfectly adapted to work under the saddle. Orel trotter is often called “the Arab under the magnifying glass”, meaning that the Oryol trotter breed inherited many traits from its ancestor – the Arabian horse

With the development of equestrian sports, the Oryol trotters became participants in a variety of competitions and not once proved that they are able to show stable high results. The famous falcon named Krepysh, who repeatedly won the title of Champion in trotting races, became world famous. Performing, in total, in 80 runs, he managed to win 55 times! Another example of the staggering success of the Oryol trotter in sport is the light gray Balagur, who repeatedly became the winner of prestigious international competitions. Many horses of this breed traditionally perform in jumping, as well as the usual driving for them

In the history of this breed there was also a period when the Oryol trotter was on the verge of extinction, saving it, which is called “the whole world”. Today Orlov trotter is not threatened, although there are not many representatives of this breed in the world. Trotters are still used in sports, as well as for teaching people riding, in tourism and as a hobby horse

The ever-growing popularity of the Oryol trotter is explained by the fact that this elegant horse perfectly adapts to any conditions, has a fine friendly character, it is easily trained, bold and durable, frisky and balanced. This horse is a symbol of our country and we must make every effort to ensure that the “bird-troika”, as many centuries ago, flew freely and freely across the expanses of Russia.
