Among the meat breeds of ducks, there are more or less successful varieties. Among the most successful representatives of this group is the Moscow white. This beautiful and interesting bird was created in the middle of last century in the state farm “Ptichnoe”. As a result of crossing the drakes of the Khaki-Campbell breed and the Peking ducks, a variety with a good egg-laying and excellent fecundity was obtained. Subsequently, pedigree work was carried out with individuals of the Moscow white and khaki-campbell drakes. This allowed to increase live weight and increase the rate of ripening of young animals.
Birds are great for growing on Russian farms, because this breed can withstand the harsh climate and winter cold. They are distinguished by their stamina and strong immune system, thanks to which they practically do not get sick.
The appearance of the Moscow white retained the characteristic features of the Peking duck. The head of these birds is small, elongated with a large red-orange flat beak. The neck is not long, of medium thickness. Eyes are dark blue, located high. Chest broad, rounded and strongly protruding forward. The broad and dense trunk of the duck is slightly raised. Short legs are widely spread and have a rich orange color. Plumage dense, bright white. Several feathers of tail drake bend ring.
Among the meat-oriented species, the Moscow whites are distinguished by larger sizes. Adult drakes gain a living mass ranging from 4,000 to 4,500 grams, ducks weigh slightly less – from 3,000 to 3,500 g. Young growth is characterized by good survival (up to 90%) and high precocity. By 2 months they gain weight to 2,500 g. Among this breed there are individuals that continue to grow further and can gain even more weight. The egg-laying is also high. Nesushki bring from 120 to 150 pieces per year. Eggs quite large – about 100 g. In addition, the ducks of this breed continue to be carried for a long time. At the same time, the number and quality of eggs in the clutch does not suffer.
Advantages of breeding the Moscow white breed of ducks.
The advantage of the Moscow white is its meat. It is considered dietary and has a delicate taste. Low-fat, devoid of a specific duck smell, it can be used even for cooking dishes that require cooking or quenching. Ducks have white skin and thin bones. Among the ducklings and young animals there is a very low mortality rate, and adult individuals are characterized by high fertility and resistance to various diseases. In addition, they have a low cost, which made it possible to widely spread this breed on the territory of Russia. Ducks are undemanding in feeding and do not need special care. To cultivate the Moscow white do not need special knowledge in poultry farming and large time costs.
In summer, their diet should consist of greenery. Ducks can be left to themselves all day and find food. In the morning it is enough to let them go free-range, they will eat natural food on a meadow or pond. To quickly gain weight, you need to monitor their diet. Birds of this breed are not predisposed to obesity, so fertilizing can consist of grain and wet lumps. Ducks eat 3 times a day, with the last feeding should be especially abundant.
Endurance of low temperatures greatly simplifies the creation of conditions in the poultry house. But the cold still adversely affects egg production and weight gain, so it is still worthwhile to worry about the insulation of the room and the ventilation system.
Due to its unpretentiousness and viability, the Moscow white breed of ducks can be seen literally in any household farm.
