Cucumbers are quite thermophilic vegetables, and when the temperature around them is less than 14-15 degrees, they grow very slowly and develop poorly. And at night even in summer the temperature can drop to such a mark. Therefore, to get a good harvest, beds for cucumbers need to do warm enough.

To arrange a bed for cucumbers preferably from east to west, in order that the sun’s rays as long as possible warmed the heat-loving cucumbers.

The preparation of beds can be done already in autumn or at least in early spring.

Excavated trench depth of 50-60 cm (this is about 2 shovel width) and a width of 1-1,2 m. In the long trench you can do any, depending on the number of cucumbers that you are going to plant. Cross the wood chocks, tree trunks of dead apple trees or other crops can fit. But the best is suitable for fresh firewood, size 60-70cm.

It will be enough for a few logs, and do not regret that simply burying firewood, because the garden will serve you more than one year and delicious cucumbers probably are a pair of logs. The sides of the trench are laid with chips, branches or sawdust. On top put inverted by the reverse side of the turf and slightly trampled all the beds.

Above the turf on the bed lay a wood sheet, always dry, and you can even with a slide. And only after all this it is necessary to pour the earth, half mixed with compost, a layer of 10cm. Compost is also needed to create a warm nest for cucumbers.

The outer sides of the bed can be edged, for example with a wooden box or other fence. But be sure to keep in mind that it is advisable not to block the southern side from the sun’s rays and make the southern borders as low and deviate them slightly from the bed so that the earth can be heated by the sun’s rays. And the western side can catch the evening rays and warm them well, so on the western side it is better to do the same.

Such a layered warmed bed will last you at least ten years. The boards that you put in it will rot and create heat from the inside. They will have a good influence on the reproduction of microorganisms, due to the release of methane during decomposition, which will create a nutrient medium for good plant growth. The leaves added to your bed will rot during two seasons, and also replenish the soil with nutrient humus. And so that this process does not stop, add each spring to your garden the fallen leaves, and it will form a fresh humus.

If you did not succeed in making such a bed in advance, then in a hurry, you can simply sketch out any leaves and other garden garbage that you collect every spring from your garden, a layer of 30-40 cm, it’s all good to drown and to cover with earth at 10 cm.

Before the time comes to put cucumbers in there, you can use such a warm patch from the very beginning of the sowing campaign, and in early spring sowing salad, dill, radish, and subsequently the seeds of zucchini, pumpkin, and patissoni for obtaining their seedlings. All this needs to be covered with a film, since in the spring on the street frosts are still possible, but they are not threatened with such a bed, and even under a film. First time, somewhere before May, this bed does not need watering, for the growth of smaller shoots, there will be enough moisture coming from the ground.

At the end of spring, all seedlings are planted, and in this garden cucumbers are sown, for which everything was cooked.
