The horse has long been considered one of the noble animals, which are bred exclusively for consumer purposes: riding, sports, assistance in agricultural work. Horse breed haflinger, bred in Austria, near Tyrol is the best suited for working in the field and on the farm. For the first time the stallion of this breed was registered in the society of lovers of horses and professional breeders as far back as 1874, but according to some information haflingers appeared a little earlier, having been bred by interbreeding such breeds of horses as the semi-Arabian El Bedavi and the purebred Tirolean mare. The official recognition of the breed occurred only in 1898
The horses of this breed can easily be recognized by a beautiful golden suit, which, combined with a lush white mane and an equally fine tail, looks spectacular enough in the sun
Horses are considered extremely unpretentious and are used for the most part by athletes and farmers, and haflingers are common in the Austrian mounted police and army, for which horse breeders take them from the herd at the age of 4 and can use it for heavy work until the horses reach 40 years of age. Most of the horses of this breed are used for clearing wood and other heavy work, where literally the horse’s horsepower is irreplaceable. Since the breed was bred in view of mountain conditions, horses are very unpretentious to weather conditions and road troubles. The Khafligners are smart enough and therefore it is not difficult to train them. The calm disposition of a horse makes it possible without fear to roll on it small children, and also to ride those who do not keep well in the saddle and are afraid of horses
Haflinger breed horses have the following characteristic features for them: 1. The maximum growth height at the withers is 150 centimeters; 2. The head is noble, beautifully planted, harmoniously combined with the trunk, the males are allowed a slight roughness of the head. The ears are small; 3. The occipital part is well expressed, the neck of a moderate length is noble, which corresponds to all the signs of purebred breed; 4. The chest is wide, the humerus part is located at the right angle; 5. The back is very sturdy, the waist is short; 6. Feet dry, straight, correctly set with well-visible joints, tendons and muscles. Hoof horn strong; 7. Small marks are possible on the legs, their presence is permissible, but undesirable
So, haflingers are universal horses, perfectly suitable for both entertainment and serious work. Hardy horses can climb to unapproachable hills and with the same ease to descend, any hardest work such strong horses do, as well as any distances that haflingers cover in a relatively fast time
In food, horses are also unpretentious, as in nursing, because they are most often released to feed on pastures, and pasture is thus the main food. Feeding animals almost is not required, because they are recognized by farmers as the best for maintenance and breeding.
