Goats are the most beloved pets for most residents of small towns, since they can be kept in a small shed only at the fodder, or on kitchen residues. Wishing to acquire such a noble and non-capricious animal as a goat, it should be understood that goats are different, some of them are dairy, others are meat, and a third are wool. Naturally, when planning to buy goats for the subsequent breeding in order to obtain fatty and nutritious milk, it is best to buy goats of dairy breeds. It is to such breeds that Gorky goats are included, whose origin remains unclear even nowadays, as it is commonly believed that Gorky goats originate from Russian white goats. In addition, the Zaanen goats were used to improve the breed,
The females and males of the Gorky goats are small, rather medium-sized, they have a strong constitution, the color of the coat is white. The weight of an adult goat reaches 50 kilograms, the goat is 65, but some specimens of Gorky goats can even reach 75 kilograms with good feeding.
Gorky goats are dairy, during the lactation period, which lasts an average of 10 months, each female gives at least 500 kilograms of milk. Indicators of milk yield of some queens sometimes reached even 1000 kilograms, with fat content of 4-5%, but after a lapse of six months from the day of lambing, a goat can somewhat reduce milk yield, which should not be worried, since it is quite normal for Gorky breed.
Gorky goats are considered very prolific, they often have twins and even triplets, statistic data shows that there are up to 210 kids in one lamb for a total of 100 poultry. There are confirmed cases of the fact that in one litter, that is, from one female, more than 4 kids were born, all of them viable and absolutely healthy.
The wool of the Gorky goat is short, it has a non-uniform character, it has practically no undercoat, therefore one goat can be cut quite a bit of wool per year, the average noodle does not exceed 250 grams, which indicates that these goats should not be bred for wool.
Care for the Gorky goat is very simple, as being grown in Russia, it tolerates very bad cold, heat, snow and rain. Like most goats, Gorky, poorly tolerates drafts and lack of fresh air, which immediately reflects on her wool. They feed the goat with their forage, kitchen scraps, grass, weeds and even leaves of trees. Animals like apples, cabbage, carrots and pumpkins, they can also eat potatoes, tops and field weeds. Feeding should take place in such a way that the goats always have food and water, since they do not eat much, but often.
While breeding goats, it is important to remember that they do not like to graze in one place for a long time, even if there is a large quantity of grass on the pasture, so it is necessary to divide the site so that it can be transferred from one part to another.
It is also important to keep an eye on the hygiene of the animal, as white wool, soiled, can lead to parasites in it – bugs and lice. Once every few months, animals should be treated with aids from parasites, not only internal, but also external – helminths. With proper care and maintenance, Gorky goats will milk well, bring in large offspring and give out simply a huge amount of tasty and flavored meat, while not requiring any high-quality fodders and special vitamins.
