An integral part of the maintenance and cultivation of turkeys is their proper feeding. It affects the quality of the productivity of the bird. It is desirable to achieve a golden mean: for the owner of the feed should be inexpensive, but at the same time, quality and useful for growing birds, combine all the necessary for rapid and proper growth of nutrients.
There is a misconception that turkeys can be fed in the same way as other types of poultry. In fact, this is not so, turkeys need a special diet, which will provide them with a sufficient number of useful substances. Also, the food should not be too fatty, otherwise such feeding will lead to rapid obesity of the bird. With severe obesity, turkey meat is not tasty, and some species have health problems.
To form the correct metabolism in the poultry, feeding must be carried out strictly on schedule, 3-4 times a day. Diet should be divided into time intervals: in the evening, the feeding is carried out by grain crops, and in the morning and in the afternoon – a mixture of mixed fodder and other ingredients. Large feeding troughs are needed so that each individual can receive a portion at a time. It is not recommended to mix dry and wet forages, separate feeders are obligatory for them. Dry food pours up as it is spent, and the damp must prepare 20 minutes before feeding, with a longer idle time it can deteriorate and the bird will not eat it.
During the breeding period, it is required to provide for special kinds of feeding with the content of proteins, minerals and vitamins. Females can add yeast and foods with a high vitamin B content to the normal diet. Males during this period are fed preferably in the evening, so it is necessary to feed them with various grains and vegetables.
In the warm season, if possible, turkeys should be kept in free-range. Due to these conditions, they will receive all the necessary components for food, and the owner will be able to save money on buying food. However, the places of walking should be changed periodically, at least a couple of times during the season.
In winter, hay is harvested for birds, and the leaves of plants are dried – in the future they can be added to the stern mashrooms. Also positive for winter feeding will be the addition of fodder to the chopped needles of spruce or pine.
