Feeders for quails

The main costly item in the breeding of quails is feed, so it is very important to spend it efficiently and according to purpose without unnecessary losses. This is achieved by choosing the right type of feeder. When using an unsuccessful version of the feeder, the loss of feed can reach up to 35-40%.

All feeders are divided into:

– floor and suspended;

– flute and honeycomb;

– open and buffer.

In the main mass, in the cell culture of quails, pendant feeders are used, located on the outside of the cage, which prevents the dropping of litter in the feed and, as a result, its decay. Floor troughs are used for free quail maintenance.

Cellular feeders are used during the first 2 weeks of life of the young. Their peculiarity is that each cell limits the feeding of one chick in space, which prevents the appearance of a crush at the feeder. In the older age quails feedcells are replaced by grooves, but here it is necessary to take into account the fodder front of birds. It should be at least 170 mm per bird.

The buffer feeders are different from the open ones that you can fill them with food once every 2-3 days. Due to the feeders feed is fed into the feeder portionwise. For food in open feeders it is necessary to constantly monitor and pour the feed 3-4 times a day.

When choosing the material for the production of feeders, special attention should be paid to its hygienic properties. Inert materials such as plastic, galvanized metal, glass, and clay, copper and wood are the worst ones.

Special attention should be given to the quail watering regime. It is very important that birds constantly have access to fresh water. For this, two types of pointer are used: tray and automatic. The drawback of the troughs is that the water in them quickly becomes dirty and needs to be changed 2-3 times during the day, while rinsing the drink itself. This process is quite laborious. Unlike troughs, auto-fryers keep the water clean and fresh much longer and there is no need to change the water during the day.

They are floor and suspended. The outdoor drinkers pose a mortal danger for young quails. This is due to the excessive liveliness and mobility of the chicks. The quail can be drowned in the pointer, even if it has a safe, at first glance, water level. Therefore it is safer to use pendant feeders.

Sippy cups and feeding a variety of configurations can be purchased at specialty stores, but very often they are made sparrow bird with your hands, which reduces the maintenance costs of quail.

In Fig. 1 shows the scheme of the automatic pointer and the buffer feeder, which is based on the principle of communicating vessels.

The above-mentioned forms of food drinkers and feeders are attached to the wall of the cage, which prevents the dropping of litter into feed and water, contributes to calming the thirst with calves more calmly and ensures complete safety of the bird during feeding and watering.
