Features of feeding ducklings

The appearance of ducklings is an important stage in the breeding of poultry. It causes a lot of questions from their owner, as care for them differs from the content of adult individuals.

The main one is feeding. The health and development of the grown bird depends on the full and competent nutrition in the early period. After appearance of brood in the light, trace whether they take food. Daily chicks often do not know how to eat on their own. In this case, 1-2 days must be given to their feeding. First you need to water them from the pipette with water, slightly tinted with potassium permanganate. Until they grow up they continue to give 2 times a week. Small ducklings from the first days are allowed to feed boiled eggs. Well chop them, mix with coolly cooked porridge and scatter on dark paper. Usually, after these manipulations, they begin to eat themselves.

During the first three days, the ducklings can be fed with damp mashrooms, adding grain to them. According to the consistency they must be crumbly, otherwise the sticky mass will clog the nasal holes of the chicks. Before each feed, prepare a new mash. Ducklings also eat oatmeal or barley cereals well. Preliminary it should be soaked in water to remove hard particles and debris that chicks are not recommended because of the possibility of injury.

From the second day in their diet can include greens. Nettle or a green onion is perfect. Finely chopped, it is mixed with a crushed egg or cottage cheese. Carrots, grated, they can receive in pure form. During this period, emphasis should be placed on protein foods. It is useful to give ducklings milk, kefir, cottage cheese, curdled milk, boiled egg. After the tenth day of life, you can include boiled vegetables in their food. They are served to them in the form of barnacles.

Such a balanced diet will allow the chicks to get all the necessary microelements and vitamins. This is also conducive to the rapid growth and full development of young animals. Up to 15-day-old ducklings require feeding 5-8 times a day, from 16-day – 4-6 times, if the young is in aviary. For three meals a day they are transferred at three months of age.

From 15-day-old age ducklings can go out on the pond. They themselves will find their own food, so the food can be reduced to 2-3 times. Be sure to feed the chicks a bit early in the morning before going out. The main food they can get on the pond. After a pen for the night, food should be dense. It is obligatory to include in their diet foods rich in calcium: shells, limestone, chalk, eggshells.

In the early days the chicks do not need a feeder. The food is scattered on a sheet of plywood. Then you need to prepare a special container for eating. For ducklings use a small narrow trough, divided into compartments by partitions. To facilitate cleaning, they are not brought to the bottom. The chicks practically do not climb into the feeding bowl while eating, so the turntable is not installed above it.

Drinkers for small ducklings have their own characteristics. Their size should correspond to the growth of chicks, so that they can easily quench their thirst. In this case, the container should not be too deep, otherwise they will bathe in it, polluting the water, but sufficient to completely immerse the head in it. This is necessary so that the chicks can cool in the heat and rinse the beak off the remains of food. The optimum option will be a drinker in the form of a reservoir for 4 liters and a saucer. Water poured into a container, top covered with a saucer and inverted. As the chicks will consume the liquid, a new one will enter the tray. Water for ducklings should not be cold, otherwise they may get sick. Cure them, as a rule, fails.
