The combination of unpretentiousness and high productivity makes duck breeding very cost-effective. To this end, many farmers initially begin to fatten the ducklings for meat. They grow rapidly, they are distinguished by viability, precocity and rarely get sick. You can grow them under the hen. One duck can leave 10-15 chicks. In this case, they do not cause special hassle in content.
Cultivation without a hen requires the creation of chicks a certain temperature regime. Up to 10 days they must be in cell batteries or boxes equipped with electric heaters. The temperature in the room, where the ducklings are kept, is maintained at 18-20 ° C. In warmed cells, in which they are up to 10-days of age, the temperature should be 26-28 ° C, and from the 11th to the 20th day – 22-26 ° C.
At ducklings, whose age is 65-70 days, moulting occurs. During this period they lose weight, feathers begin to form, because of which the skin appears hemp, which is difficult to remove. This greatly damages the appearance of carcasses. Therefore, the young must be killed before the moult arrival, on the 50-60 day. Otherwise, you have to wait 2-3 weeks when it will end. This entails an increase in feed costs. At the same time, the growth of live weight is very small, and the feed consumption for 60-120-day ducklings is 8 times greater than for a 50-day period.
For cultivation choose strong, mobile chicks, well-kept on legs, without flaws. The umbilical cord should be retracted and not have traces of blood.
Immediately after birth, the chicks must be given food and drink. In the early days they are fed a chopped boiled egg. Up to 10-day-old chicks are given food 6-8 times, starting from 11- and up to 30-day 4-5 times, from 31-60-day 4 times. From the second day they can get moist mash-bottles from grain, mineral forages. It is better to cook them on meat or fish broth. From 2-3 days in the mash-pan you can include boiled potatoes. Corn is the most valuable component of the ration of young animals. Barley and oats should be sieved from hard shells up to 20 days before use. In daily feeding, you must enter chopped greens. This contributes to the rapid growth of chicks.
During the first three weeks they have augmented muscle building, so they need food rich in protein. From 2-3 days should be added to their diet cottage cheese in the norm of 3-5 years. for one individual. All dairy products contain protein, which is necessary for young animals in large quantities. At this stage, the diet of ducklings is also required to include bone and fish flour, peas.
The emphasis on protein foods should be done in the first half of fattening, in the second period ducklings should accumulate fat mass. From that moment, the amount of protein food is reduced and more green is injected. The grain is gradually removed from the composition of the sticks and given to the chicks in the evening feeding.
Yeast feed also helps the ducklings to gain weight better. Yeast increases appetite, they are sources of vitamins D and B. It is prepared in the following way: in 1 500 ml of warm water, in which 30 g of yeast is diluted, 1 kg of flour is introduced. Mass carefully knead and clean in a warm place. After 6-9 hours it can be added to the composition of the barnacles.
Fattening ducklings is not only in the selection of food, but also certain conditions of detention. It is best to give up free-range and keep them in the pen. Above it you need to build a canopy that will cover from the sun and rain. Being in a tight place, they do not move so actively, so they lose fewer calories and eat more. Even when fattening, the young should be provided with access to water. To do this, it will be enough to supply them with a small container of water.
As a result of proper fattening, the ducklings gain a good weight, and the meat has excellent taste properties.
