English black quail breed

Birds of the English black quail breed became popular in Russia in the early 1970s. Coloring of these quails is diverse: there are both dark blue, and light gray and orange individuals. Because of the relatively dark color, these birds are outwardly less beautiful than the quails of other breeds, in particular – English white, whose females are among the most attractive

In accounting for productivity characteristics, black birds belong to the “egg” group and are grown mainly by non-professional poultry farmers. With an egg weight of up to 12 grams, they show a high level of productivity – an annual maximum of 300 pieces. As for higher egg production rates, they are present in two other quail species: Japanese and Estonian. The live weight of this species is one and a half times greater than their Japanese counterparts and even the English white quail. The weight of the male can reach 165 grams, and the weight of the female is 195 grams

Also quails of this breed of meat direction, for this they are brought out in a special way. The weight of birds with this growing is more than 200 grams, which is 20 percent higher than egg-type quail

Breeders are advised to breed females separately from males, i. e. with the rest of the birds. In addition, it is desirable to place the male and 4 females in the enclosure. This type of accommodation is considered more productive and comfortable for quails. If it is necessary to get non-food and hatching eggs, then from several young birds, which are considered mature by sex, pairs are formed and after that, they are planted in cages

It should be borne in mind that the subsequent rearrangement is contraindicated, because there is a probability of a decline in egg production. The survival rate of the young is low, it survives about 70 percent of all fertilized eggs. Quail meat has high taste qualities with a low fat content. In general, the breeding of these quails is valued as a cost-effective poultry farming.
