Cages for quails

Speaking of cages for quail, first of all it is necessary to be defined in general with the conditions of the maintenance of this bird. Breeding quail is a very profitable enterprise, because it does not require large capital investments at the initial stage, high costs for feeding and care of birds, does not need large areas. All these factors favor the development of quail fishing.

The room where the quail cells are located must meet certain requirements. First, it should be sufficiently light, which is achieved mainly by the organization of artificial lighting. However, it is worth remembering that the quail can not stand direct exposure to sunlight and bright artificial light, so cells should be located in diffuse light. Secondly, the premise with cells should be dry, warm and without drafts. Excessive humidity of the premises can lead to infection of birds with pathogens of various diseases, for which a moist warm microclimate of cells favors development. Drafts are harmful to the health of birds.

These are the basic requirements for the room, where the quail will be supported, the requirements for the cage are much smaller.

When calculating cell parameters, the following conditions are taken into account:

– The height of the cage should be at least 25 cm;

– for one bird, the optimal floor area is approximately 1.6 square meters (a more dense planting results in a decrease in the productivity of the poultry both in meat and egg production).

The cell itself is a box of rectangular shape with a wooden frame, on which a mesh with a certain diameter of the cells in it is stuffed. Cells should not be very large in order to avoid the escape or injury of birds. Each cell has a door that facilitates quail care. In addition, each cell is equipped with a feeding tray (troughs) and an egg tray, which are usually made of galvanized steel that is not corroded in a humid and warm room.

Cells for breeding quails are added in the room in the form of multi-tier shelves, the number of rows in which varies from two to five by six. The lower tier is located at an average height of 35 cm from the floor. Each cell tier is isolated from each other by plywood sheets replacing the cells with a roof.

Cells in the room can be placed above the walls, leaving the center of the room free, or you can row, forcing almost all the free space of the room. In the second case, it should be taken into account the fact that the distance between adjacent racks of cells should not be less than 80 cm. this will increase the ventilation of the cells, create more comfortable conditions for quail care.

As a result, it is easy to calculate how many birds can be placed in the room you have. This requires the number of quail heads in one cage, multiplied by the number of tiers in the shelves and multiplied by the number of shelves in the room.

To date, cells for growing quail can be:

– buy ready-made at a pet store,

– order their production for a certain size of the room

– make cells with your own hands.

The disadvantage of purchasing ready-made cells is that you will be tied to their sizes and parameters, which does not always allow you to effectively use the space of the room. Manufacturing of cells to order will allow to optimize the space due to the implementation of cells according to individual parameters. Often, ordering cells is cheaper than buying ready-made. Make the same cells with their own hands – this is not difficult, and not expensive, but for amateurs to be crooked and entertaining.
