History of origin The place of origin of the Swiss breed is considered to be the lands of Switzerland. In them, archeologists found the remains of a short-haired peat cattle, recognized as the progenitor of the brown Schwitz breed. This Swiss breed is the ancestor of many kinds of brown cattle, as the Schwick bulls were actively crossed with cows of various local breeds

For the period of its existence, the breed has undergone many changes, but with every century the fitness of animals to the diverse natural conditions of Switzerland has only increased. Initially, this breed was bred as a dairy, but eventually decided to work on improving its meat qualities. The result of prolonged breeding was the animals with a strong constitution and well developed musculature

Thanks to its high rates of both meat and dairy productivity, this breed quickly gained popularity outside of Switzerland. The fact of the original intrapartic heterogeneity helped representatives of the breed adapt quickly to the climatic conditions in new habitats

Exterior of the brown Swiss breed The representatives of this breed have a massive body with a voluminous chest and an even, broad back. Exuberant legs end with strong hoofs. On a relatively short head there is a wide forehead and dark horns. Most animal breeds have brown color with different shades. Light areas are located around the nose and on the top of the trunk. It is interesting that in this breed there is a separation of the forms according to gender, in which the cows have more middle and posterior parts of the body, and the bulls have a powerful thorax

Average weight and milk production Well-developed muscle mass of the rock is reflected in a sufficiently high index of live weight. For cows it is about 500 kg, adult bulls reach a weight of up to 950 kg. Young growth is usually born with a live weight of 35-38 kg, but by the age of 18 months has a weight of 400 to 450 kg

Milk productivity in cows of this breed is considered high, however, it is still lower than that of specialized dairy breeds. The average milk yield per cow varies between 4000-5600 kg. There are among the representatives of the Schwitz breed and world records with milk yields, reaching 17,000 kg of milk. The fat content of the dairy product in cows ranges from 3.7% to 3.8%

Features and current state of the Schwick breed For the cow of the Swiss breed, such characteristics as low rate of milk yield and the often occurring irregular shape of the nipples, due to which the milking with milking plants becomes impossible

In contrast to these shortcomings, it is possible to confidently put the universality of the breed with uniformly developed meat and dairy directions, high adaptability to various climatic conditions and the calm nature of animals

To date, the improvement of brown rocks continues. Breeding work is mainly aimed at increasing the number of livestock and increasing its productivity. To improve the hereditary properties, the selection of bulls, which represent a tribal value, is carried out. The estimation of each bull takes place taking into account the productivity of ancestors more than in the previous three generations.
